SUPRASTERNAL
This isn't a view that is typically described for POCUS examinations of the heart, but I find it particularly useful when trying to find a dissection flap.
Probe and patient posiition
supraclavicular notch, tilting into the chest
probe marker at 12 o'clock
patient with neck hyperexpanded
Fan slightly to the left
You will see the aortic arch and descending aorta with the pulmonary trunk nestled under the arch.
In this view look for a dissection flap in the aortic arch or descending aorta. As in the clip above, it may be difficult to discern as the US beam will be parallel to the flap. Rememeber: US images best when it is perpendicular to the structure.
